The Creation of Great Works of Literature

April 16, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’ve been searching through the archives for the greatest web comic about literature ever, and I finally found it via a lucky hit in google blog search. I could post the actual comic here, but that smacks of intellectual thievery (even with effusive acknowledgements). This comic, by JJ Rowland, in which Sheriff Pony and Topato (the superhero Potato made of poison) discuss and evaluate Topato’s attempt to dash off a great work of world literature somehow manages to capture all aspects of my own attempts to be a man of letters: the overweening ambition, the crushing failure… and even the experience of grading my students’ papers, one of the side effects of that combination of oveweening ambitition and relentless failure (ie, becoming a Prof).

So, check it, my intellectual biography as a web comic.

I’d better be careful, because I’ve heard that “linkyness” is now seen as a bad thing in the blogosphere…

PS Are blogs like poetry? A genre everyone writes, but no one reads…
